Chicanx Latinx Commencement

CLFSA has been a consistent supporter of Chicanx/Latinx Commencement.

Chicanx Latinx Commencement (XCC now CLC) was established in January 1978 by members of Movimiento Estudiantil Xicano de Aztlan (M.E.X.A.) at California Polytechnic State University to raise funds and coordinate efforts for a bilingual (English and Spanish) graduation ceremony. Soon, XCC grew in participation and increased its level of success.

CLC continues to provide an opportunity to honor not only the graduates, but also their families, whose moral support is so critical to student success. The committee brings the Latinx community together to celebrate the significance of graduation.

It is not a replacement for the official Cal Poly commencement but a complement to it. This commencement ceremony positively portrays the accomplishments of Latinx students to siblings, parents and friends.

The event consists of family and friends enjoying entertainment, a guest speaker, short speeches by the graduating seniors, student awards, and acknowledgment of faculty and staff that helped make this commencement celebration possible.
