Chicanx Latinx Commencement Reception

CLFSA has been a consistent supporter of the Chicanx Latinx Commencement Reception.

Chicanx Latinx Commencement (CLC) Reception was established in January 1978 by members of Movimiento Estudiantil Xicano de Aztlan (M.E.X.A.) at Cal Poly to raise funds and coordinate efforts for a bilingual (English and Spanish) graduation ceremony. Soon, the reception grew in participation and increased its level of success.

CLC Reception continues to provide an opportunity to honor not only the graduates, but also their families, whose moral support is so critical to student success. The committee brings the community together to celebrate the significance of graduation.

The event consists of family and friends enjoying entertainment, a guest speaker, short speeches by the graduating seniors, student awards, and acknowledgment of faculty and staff that helped make this celebration possible.

It is not a replacement for the official Cal Poly commencement but a complement to it. This reception is voluntary and is open to all graduating students who would like to participate, regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin.
